It’s never too short to play good football

As the shortest man wearing the smallest Cleveland Browns jersey, running back Jerome Harrison, at 5-foot-9, has proved to people that it is never too short to play football well.

Having been told too small to play football for as long as he can remember, Harrison is now considered being Cleveland’s best running back.

“I’ve heard that all my life,” he said, “and I’ve been scoring touchdowns my whole life. Opinions and thoughts don’t define me. Just put in the tape and watch me. Then you can make your opinion.”

Harrison has rushed for 434 yards on 73 carries the past two weeks, out-of-the-blue performances that brought into question why the Browns, whose 32nd-ranked offense has struggled most of the season, didn’t try to use the shifty four-year veteran more earlier in the season.

He also broke Hall of Famer Jim Brown’s single-game record by running 34 times for 286 yards two weeks ago while playing against the Kansas City Chiefs. Last week while playing against the Oakland Raiders, he ran 39 times for 148 yards to set another club record, which one more than Lee Suggs’ record and two more than Brown’s.

Quinn gets starting job back but Browns future still in question

As the Cleveland Browns have been frustratingly the worst team among the league, the team is now trying to improve by making changes. Firing general manager is the first step, getting Brady Quinn back to the starting quarterback is the second, and what is the next?

Originally, Browns Coach Eric Mangini did not consider Quinn as the quarterback that could give the Browns winning chances, but now he has to change his mind as a lot of began to doubt whether he is the right coach that could give the Browns hope of winning. 1—7 start has caused fans to plan protests. It is time for him to do something different than what he did before.

But it just takes times for the coaches to fix disconnect with the quarterback, who also needs time to adjust himself to the team’s formation full of young receivers. It is very likely that the Browns will not have any breakout until a few games later. And it is as hopeless for Cleveland fans to see players wearing Browns jerseys in the playoff.

Mike Holmgren could be Browns new coach

Having the experience of being coach for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks as well as GM of Seahawks, Mike Holmgren has been rumored to be the top choice of the Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner to replace George Kokinis.

But he 61-year-old Holmgren would prefer to be the Browns coach rather than moving into the front office. If so, it would cause the Browns current Coach Eric Mangini to worry about his job. However, it seemed that he Browns have decided to oust Kokinis of the GM job and even have planned to offer him a counseling job.

Along with Holmgren, the 68-year-old Ernie Accorsi and 61-year-old Ron Wolf are also on Lerner’s list. But Accorsi, who was Browns an New York Giants GM, has said that he would not like to come out of retirement unless the new job is to supervise all those who wear NFL jerseys.

Browns linebacker Jackson and kicker Dawson missed Friday practice

On this Sunday, the Cleveland Browns will likely play against the Bills in Buffalo without linebacker D’Qwell Jackson and kicker Phil Dawson, since both injured missed Friday’s practice.

As the team’s leading tackler, Jackson unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury in practice earlier this week. Rookie linebacker David Veikune has taken his position during practice. As Jackson has said that he did not want to rush back while he was still getting treatment this week, it is very likely the rookie wearing No. 57 Browns jersey will take over the starting job.

Dawson has been inactive for the Browns’ past two games because he has had a left calf injury. He even did not appear in the team’s training facility during practice. I guess he may skip his third consecutive game this Sunday, and Billy Cundiff will make his third straight start against the Bills as the replacement.

DB Hood got one-year contract from Bears

Being released by the Cleveland Browns the previous day, defensive back Rod Hood soon found his new job in the Chicago Bears, who announced on Tuesday that they have signed Hood to a one-year contract.

Hood started 14 games last season and Super Bowl for the Arizona Cardinals but was cut in April. He found a job in Cleveland in May and was used just for rotation at cornerback. In last Saturday night’s preseason game the Browns playing against the Tennessee Titans, he was beaten on a touchdown pass.

It seemed that he was unnecessary to the Cardinals and the Browns, but the Bears, who have been short-handed in the secondary during the preseason, Hood’s joining will add depth to the dinged-up secondary. With cornerback Charles Tillman recovering from offseason back surgery, and cornerback Zackary Bowman and safety Danieal Manning nursing hamstring injuries, Hood could be valued more than he was in his former teams.
