Steelers’ 1-2 start caused by the disappointing draft class of 2008?

By so far of this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ performance has been frustrating. As a team who won six Super Bowls, the Steelers must find the reasons for the 1-2 start and some other failures. One of the reasons has been revealed-the disappointing draft class of 2008.

Let’s count from RB Rashard Mendenhall, the 2008 first-round pick. He did not play a down Sunday in the loss at Cincinnati after a lackluster week in practice. Then WR Limas Sweed, the second-round pick, just dropped a would-be touchdown pass Sunday in something that is becoming routine for him. Even rookie Mike Wallace has passed him on the depth chart by catching everything thrown his way.

So, according to Coach Mike Tomlin, the team may bench Sweed for this Sunday night’s game against the San Diego Chargers and have veteran Shaun McDonald to take the job as the No.4 receiver. But the team has few options to replace Mendenhall to backup starter Willie Parker, so team re-signed Mendenhall's mentor, RB Carey Davis to add depth.
